France fined Google 1953 crores, accused of misusing ‘power’
France has imposed a hefty fine on Google. For misusing the advertising power in the online advertising market, a fine of 220 million euros, or about 1953 million, has been imposed.
Paris: The Market Competition Regulator of France has taken major action against Google. France has fined Google 220 million euros ($268 million) for abusing its ‘dominant position’ in the online advertising market.
Why fined ?
France’s Market Competition Regulator said in a statement that Google’s practices are particularly severe as they penalize publishers and application units of its competitors and mobile sites in certain markets.
Google did not challenge
“The regulator is a reminder that a company with a dominant position has a responsibility not to ignore the interests of others,” the statement said. It said that the American IT company has not challenged the facts in this case and has proposed changes. The head of the organization, Isabel da Silva, said that this is an unprecedented decision.
